The Future of AI in Marketing

Autonomous systems are moving from the media buying layer into strategy itself. The advantage will belong to organisations that restructure decision-making, not those that buy the most tooling.

For three decades, marketing technology promised leverage and delivered administration. The current generation of models breaks that pattern for a simple reason: they act on judgement rather than on rules. That shift relocates the constraint from execution capacity to decision quality.

We observe three structural changes across the client organisations we advise. First, the planning cycle compresses — quarterly media plans are being displaced by continuously re-optimised portfolios. Second, the creative function bifurcates into high-volume variant production and scarce, high-value brand authorship. Third, measurement moves upstream, from post-campaign attribution towards pre-flight simulation.

The organisations capturing value are not the heaviest adopters. They are the ones that have redrawn accountability so that a machine recommendation has a named human owner, an escalation threshold and a documented override log. Governance, not tooling, is the differentiator.

Our recommendation to boards is deliberately unfashionable: slow the procurement, accelerate the operating model work. Capability without an organisational chassis produces expensive noise.

Our position: capability without an operating model produces expensive noise.
